Is New Lyfe Considered Sober Clothing?
Posted on 07 January 2014
It's no secret that I am sober.
I don't drink. I don't get high. I am obsessive, I crave adrenaline and I was born with strange personality quirks that leave me flickering on the edge of insanity and genius. It is a hard thing to explain, but those that are like us understand perfectly fine.
With the growing popularity of New Lyfe, I get asked the same question quite often.
"So are you a sober clothing brand?"
The truth is, I don't know exactly what people mean by "sober clothing." How can clothes be sober?
I don't like the idea of shoving the message of sobriety down people's throats.
As boring as that is, that is the best answer I can provide. I am not trying to be anything other than myself. I have never been comfortable with the label of "a sober person." I simply made a decision years ago that I didn't want to drink or use drugs. It is as simple as that.
Yes, I am sober. Some of my designs speak to the idea and ideals of sobriety. I don't purposefully create designs that go after the sobriety or sober clothing market. My sobriety is a huge part of my identity for sure. However, my sobriety is not who I am. Many designs are targetted towards the recovery culture. I love recovery and I love the people involved in it. It feels good so that's what I create.
What New Lyfe is as a clothing company is simply and extension of I am as a person. I love my recovery, but I don't preach. I love my positive lifestyle, but I don't tell others how to live their lives.
This has been an amazing ride and I love to imagine where New Lyfe will be this time next year, two years from now. Dare I say 10 years from now.
I am grateful as always for you and your support.
